Jenavieve Belair is a lifestyle commercial and wedding photographer based in Southern California. Her work is very youthful and fun, breathing the So Cal culture and vibe.
In this conversation, Braedon & Jenavieve talk about putting yourself out there, and finding a style that you love. On how to get started: Bring your camera with you everywhere, & don't be afraid to reach out to people you'd like to photograph.
On her favorite jobs: She loves the jobs that are less of a production, where she has complete creative control—everyone just hanging out.
On being stuck creatively: When you feel like everyone’s doing the same thing, branch out to new things. She started doing weddings when she felt like she was stuck in the “vain” fashion world. She was able to create a her own hybrid of lifestyle work with wedding work.
On how to put yourself out there/brand yourself: Once she stopped thinking too much about what she thought other people wanted to see, and started doing it for herself she gained more of a following. Start putting work out that you like - not the work you think other people will like.
Some final advice from Jenavieve: If you have something that inspires you, go recreate it. Don’t be afraid to show people the work you’ve created. Go get inspired by something and just do it.
